NOMinations are here!
a man and a child (wearing pajamas) sitting at a table eating fish sticks dipped in custard with text Do you know what time it is? It's NOMMING time!

What can I NOMinate members for?

This round, we have nine categories: Best Editor, Best Feedback, Most Improved, Member's Choice, Best Comedy Writer, Best Dramatic Writer, Best Poetry Writer, Most Likely to Start an Underground Cult, and Most Likely to Make a Million Dollars.

  • Best Editor -- Which of our fine team of editors deserves recognition for their undying efforts to help you improve your writing? Regular editors, standby editors, and the lovely people who drop in to help out with volunteer edits are all a part of this category!
  • Best Feedback -- Who stops in to encourage you and your muse time after time, piece after piece?
  • Most Improved -- This is a great way to recognize our writers who may not be at the top of our polls, but who are working as hard as they can to become the best writer they can be -- just as much as it is a way to recognize any of our popular authors who have striven to detail their work with every keystroke.
  • Member's Choice -- For recognition of all-around awesomeness. Who goes above and beyond for the community? (As a reminder - moderators are not eligible for this category; all other categories are open to everyone.)
  • Best Comedy Writer -- The first of our genre awards - whose comedy pieces are consistently hilarious?
  • Best Dramatic Writer -- Is there an author who can keep you on the edge of your seat week after week, waiting to find out how they're going to resolve the plot this time?
  • Best Poetry Writer -- We have a lot of authors who've branched out of prose, so let's recognize them here! Any kind of formal verse, free verse, prosetry, and any related entries are welcome here.
  • Most Likely to Start an Underground Cult -- Is there an author you're just convinced is going to have a cult following as soon as they start publishing, even if nobody outside the cult has noticed they've written anything? Maybe you think they've already made a head start on that cult here at the Flame, no formal publishing necessary! Or maybe someone's going to manage the underground cult some way other than writing.
  • Most Likely to Make a Million Dollars -- Know anybody who will just happen to get stuck for a day in an elevator with a big-name publisher and come out with a book deal? Aspiring comic book artists in the crowd? Or maybe someone here has talents beyond writing they might apply to this challenge.

How do I NOMinate a member?

Simply post here with a comment! In your comment, you should include:
  • The award you'd like to nominate the person for
  • The username of the person who would receive the award and any alternative usernames they might be known under. (To make names easy to see, please try to highlight using the username code -- <lj user="username goes here"> -- or else bold each username.)
  • Why you feel that this person is the best choice for the nomination, including what they've done in the past, how they've done it, and why you feel that was admirable.
You may also wish to include:
  • Any personal notes/anecdotes about the member.
  • Any links to examples that you'd like to include to support your NOM.
Each nominee must receive an initial nomination, and then a 'second' and 'third' from two additional members in order to be put into the final poll for the award. You may, of course, 'fourth' and 'fifth' a member to your heart's content -- there's no such thing as too much support and affection!

Who can be NOMinated?

Moderators cannot win the Member's Choice award, and you cannot NOMinate yourself. Other than that -- anyone can be NOMinated for an award! You may NOMinate as many people as you like for a single award, and you can NOMinate the same person for multiple awards to your heart's content -- no limits!

NOMs begin now and will continue until Monday, August 8, at noon EST, after which the final poll will be posted for your voting consideration. As the NOMS come in, a list of NOMinated persons will be kept on the website at this link. You may wish to check the list or read through the comments to make sure someone hasn't beaten you to NOMing someone -- it's easier to second/third/whatever than it is to make a fresh post!

Happy NOMing!

Do the Noms have to be members of Brigits Flame Comm? Can I NOM someone from 'outside' like in Rugbytackle? Not that I could possibly Nom a lot here, as I've been here merely six weeks. But I do have a couple of people I'd like, but one/two aren't BF persons.

You can only NOM BF members, I'm afraid! These are just community awards. :(

NOMS
Let's get this thing going, shall we? :D

Best Editor -- For now, I would like to NOM Keppiehed for this award. She is always punctual (I think) with her edits, and her comments are accurate and fair.

Best Feedback -- At the moment, Leticiae is springing to mind. Seriously, I see her corset icon everywhere during poll-time. She comments on most if not all entries including my own and offers encouragement and fuzzy thoughts.

Most Improved -- Osoreranai! In just a few weeks I've seen a huge jump with this member's writing, and they even won a week recently so I think that's as good an improvement you could ask for! And I can't not mention Bluegerl, who has taken on board all the Flame's feedback and concrit like a thirsty sponge, and with all the enthusiasm of a puppy! And Niliwen because we've seen her stretch her writing muscles these past few months, and she's taken the brave leap of writing outside her genre with whole new characters and concepts, and I think the improvement shows.

Member's Choice -- So many! I'd like to NOM Keppiehed, One_Time_Pad & Leticiae. Keppie simply because she comments on everything and is generally everywhere at once; OTP because he is funny in chatters but also has very interesting things to say, whether it's just a normal discussion or something about the Flame itself. Leticiae because I keep seeing her everywhere and recently she has put forward some thoughtful suggestions to the Mods, both chatters and general ideas! So thanks!

Best Comedy Writer -- Hwango! He's managed to perfect the Funny Fantasy Ficlet, and every entry I've read from this member has its tongue firmly in its cheek.

Best Dramatic Writer -- pfffffft tooo many. For now, I will NOM So_Wordy because her writings are kinda moreish. Also having to NOM Rubyelf because her stories about Lars and Gina recently have got me absolutely HOOKED and I seriously think those characters will go places. And although she's been quiet this month, Belluminabyssus because I can never tear my eyes from the screen when I read her stuff. :)

Best Poetry Writer -- Katden has to be mentioned here - her poetry is finding huge success outside the Flame as well! Also Raven_Tiger who has cut herself a little niche at the Flame with her prosetry, and always brings something very different to the weekly polls!

Most Likely to Start an Underground Cult -- Haha umm, I NOM Bardiphouka just because every entry by this member seems so off the wall and written with a different kind of perspective.

Most Likely to Make a Million Dollars -- Rubyelf because I can see her pitching the Lars/Gina stories to Spielberg and signing a massive movie deal. XDD It might happen!

Starting with the funny ones!
Most Likely to Start an Underground Cult - [info]hwango because I am pretty sure he already has. O_o

Most Likely to Make a Million Dollars - [info]jewelsverne would totally get stuck in an elevator with a publisher and come out the other side a BILLIONAIRE even.

If I may... (I am allowed to second people, right?) I'd like to second [info]bluegerl and [info]niliwen for "Most Improved", bluegerl because I've never seen anyone so happily and enthusiastically accept any and all suggestions, and because her writing has improved so much, and niliwen also for really making a huge leap in the complexity of characters and storylines and doing it so well.

I'd also like to second [info]keppiehed for best editor... my writing has greatly changed for the better specifically because of her edits! She really and truly cares about helping people become better writers.

I have been sadly quiet this month due to the fact that this is legit the last month of my college life evereverever and is therefore rather stressful, but I'd still like to hop in and nom! 8D Anyway, here are my noms (excluding my seconds and thirds and what-have-yous since SOME PEOPLE BEAT ME TO THE FLOWERY PRAISE PART).

For BEST EDITOR: Two noms for me: First, [info]thorarosebird whose grammatical changes always make me facepalm and realise what an idiot I am -- in a good way, of course -- and who always goes through a piece so very thoroughly! I want to also nom [info]rubyelf because although she's only been my editor a handful of times, she always gives great and thoughtful feedback.

For BEST FEEDBACK: I'd have to say that [info]keppiehed really outdoes herself; she makes it a point to read and comment on everyone's entries, which is totally what I'd do if I had the time, and the fact that she somehow manages to do it unfailingly is super impressive.

For MOST IMPROVED: I think [info]keppiehed is an obvious choice here, because she's really, really been growing in leaps and bounds. Also [info]leticiae, whose work is getting more and more poetic and profound!

For MOST LIKELY TO START AN UNDERGROUND CULT: I think it'll be crazy if [info]toxic_apiaceae does not have a cult following. I'm thinking of her NaNo novel, and god, specifically of her Boots and Hearts story, which was so utterly heartbreaking and wonderful and made me want it published instantly.

For MOST LIKELY TO MAKE A MILLION DOLLARS: Going to have to go with [info]toxic_apiaceae for pretty much the same reasons I noted above.
wordy: hum[info]so_wordy on July 27th, 2011 11:03 pm (UTC)
I would very much like to second [info]thorarosebird for Best Editor. Thora is always there with encouragement and a red pen. Plus, she is always so sweet about how she edits.

[Which, to me, is] par for the course. :)

I would like to OMNOMNOM [info]selkath for Best Editor. Countless times I've checked the editing posts to see that selkie was my editor. Five minutes after the initial check and my edit is done and complete. Super powers of the time bending variety? I think so.

On the rare occasion that they're not so quick, they are still extremely in depth. I've implemented many a changes according to selkie's suggestions. And, if that isn't enough, the Doctor Who icons always brighten up my day. Always.

I second [info]selkath! I haven't been on BF lately, but the last time I did, I got her, and I swear, my edit was done the day the poll went up. It was amazing, and her edits are always ridiculously in-depth. I swear, half of my grammar skills come from selkath's edits.

SO LATE ARRGH
OMG, I have been so super excited for NOMs, and LJ is killing me here! I've had my list ready since Sunday, and here goes. Better late than never, right?

Best Editor: I have to third [info]thorarosebird and second [info]rubyelf. Excellent examples both of thorough and thoughtful edits delivered with kindness and good advice. I know as an editor I try to model my behavior from them.

Most Improved: I'm Nomming [info]urb_banal for this one. I have always been a fan of her work, but I see major improvement in the time she has been writing. I am always impressed by the topics she handles. I am seconding [info]osoreranai, who has made some great strides in her time here! I am beyond impressed with one of our newer members, [info]bluegerl, whom I've had the privilege of editing quite a bit, and for that reason I am thirding her. I can see how much she takes to heart so willingly the advice she is given, and it impresses me every week her enthusiasm and grace for the craft. She is an example to me. And I would be remiss if I did not mention the ASTOUNDING renaissance of [info]leticiae, who is beyond words just bursting from a cocoon and breaks her own high mark every week. Whoa! She's on fire. Most improved, indeed, and I second that nom wholeheartedly.

Member's Choice: This one is tough for me, because so many members do so much for this community. But I'd like to nominate [info]rubyelf who does so much that many are not aware of. She does not take credit for her very good deeds, but much good is accomplished thanks to her kindness, and that needs to be recognized. Also, I second the nom of [info]leticiae.

Comedy: It doesn't need to be said, but I am 5thing [info]hwango. No brainer. :D

Dramatic Writing: Okay, a lot of them here. Thirding [info]belluminabyssus. Hands down, she's got talent! Also thirding [info]so_wordy. I think it's also very clear that that girl can write. I'd like to Nom [info]pipisafoat for this category. During the All Stars contest, she brought me to tears with some of her entries. She doesn't show us often, but when she does, they are so incredible, they are worth remembering. And so I do, and so I Nom. Also Nomming [info]urb_banal for this one. Some things written that have really loved me. She is a brave writer, and I can't say enough about how much I respect that. And one more Nom: I think [info]bardiphouka is a force to be reckoned with in this category. His ya'aburnee story sticks with me to this day, and I see a lot of potential there with the poetry.

Poetry: [info]bardiphouka I just like how different his forms of poetry are, how willing he is to hone that genre and bring feeling and new life without being so Gothic.

Million Dollars: [info]belluminabyssus. Because that girl is going to write a series of books that's going to be a movie and TV series. I've said it all along! I totally HAVE! :D

Have been busy resting! and re-reading a pile of files, stories and comments attached thereto that I had saved from BF, (while LJ was down,) and so now I would like to add a Nom or two from those reads.

MOST IMPROVED [info]keppiehed for being brave to come back and being so 'decorative' in her writing.
And for BEST FEEDBACK, with [info]thorarosebird just behind!!!

BEST EDITOR [info]keppiehed for me as I have had her twice now and have only a small comparison to use, she is really spot on with the booboos I do. Thanks Keppie. BUT in that category I cannot miss out my darling beta [info]rubyelf so can I have TWO please?

MOST LIKELY TO MAKE A MILLION [info]rubyelf for Lars and Gina and if she'd do some more hilarious ones for BF and not only for her fans in Live-journal, I for one would cheer loudly and NOM for those

I hope those I cannot mention will not be sad, but I don't know you all yet - and can hardly wait - Helloooo you all, Hugs all round.

She always has thoughtful and useful feedback, whether she's editing or just stopping by, and that's when she's not busy with edits and ROAR-ing and helping make this a great community.

And also would like to second [info]urb_banal for "Best Dramatic Writer"... so many thought-provoking entries full of very human emotions.
